Former Jets star Muhammad Wilkerson arrested in New Jersey for DUI, possession of loaded gun
· New York PostFormer Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson was arrested and charged for operating a vehicle while under the influence and unlawful possession of a loaded handgun in New Jersey on Dec. 22, according to court documents obtained by TMZ.
Wilkerson, 34, reportedly was pulled over in Morris County at 6:41 a.m., when police searched his vehicle and found an open bottle of Don Julio tequila and an FN 509 Tactical Handgun with 11 hollow point bullets inside of it.
Police stated in the documents that Wilkerson’s vehicle had an odor of alcohol and he failed field sobriety tests.
The former Pro Bowl pass rusher told police he was coming from a club in New York City at the time he was pulled over, according to the court documents.
Wilkerson purchased the firearm in Florida, but did not provide the proper documentation, per the police.
Wilkerson’s court date in the case is in February.
The Linden native was previously arrested for DWI in 2020 and 2019.
The Temple product was selected by the Jets in the first round (No. 30 overall) in the 2011 NFL draft, and spent the majority of his eight seasons with New York.
He recorded 44.5 sacks in his career and was named a second-team All-Pro in 2013 and 2015.
After his release from the Jets, Wilkerson signed a one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers in 2018.
He only appeared in three games for the Packers, before suffering a season-ending ankle injury.
Wilkerson never signed with another team.
