Police were carrying out patrols in Bury after an increase in reports of robberies and antisocial behaviour

A 'serious assault' was avoided after undercover police officers arrested six people over an attack on a member of the public on Saturday night (March 2).

Officers from the Greater Manchester Police Transport Unit and Specialist Operations were on patrol across the town centre following an increase in reports of robberies and antisocial behaviour.

Plain clothed officers arrested six people who were suspected to have been involved in an attack on a member of the public, preventing a 'serious assault' taking place.

Sharing the news, a spokesperson for the force said: "Officers from GMP Transport Unit, Specialist Operations & Bury Police have been on patrol in Bury Town centre this evening due to increased reports of robberies and Anti social behaviour.

"Fortunately a team of our plain clothes officers have been able apprehend six offenders suspected be involved in an attack on a member of the public. Their efforts and quick response have prevented a serious assault"
