Met Office issues weather warning for Greater Manchester as UK set for transport mayhem and power supplies impacted

The Met Office has issued a weather warning with strong winds on the way. Greater Manchester has been issued a yellow weather warning by forecasters until 10pm tonight (April 15).

The warning covers most of England - including all of the North West, Midlands, the South and most of Yorkshire - plus Wales and Northern Ireland. The Met Office says strong winds are likely to cause disruption throughout the day.

It warns that delays to transport are 'likely', while power supplies could also be affected. The weather could also lead to tricky driving conditions, particularly for high-sided vehicles.

In Manchester, wind gust speeds are forecast to range between 36 mph and 42 mph between 9am and 8pm. It comes on what is also expected to be a wet day for Greater Manchester according to the Met Office.

Heavy rain is expected at 1pm in the city, while other parts of Greater Manchester will see downpours this morning, showers are forecast throughout the day. Temperatures are not expected to climb above 9C
