Body recovered from River Tay near Perth following “extensive” searches for missing Clare Marshall

A body has been recovered from the River Tay near Perth following “extensive” searches for missing Clare Marshall.

The police discovery was made just before 1pm on Thursday in the Moncrieffe Island area.

No formal identification has taken place, however officers believe the woman to be Clare Marshall, whose family have since been informed.

Clare was believed to have left the Dundee Road area in the early hours of Monday, December 18, and may have walked to Moncreiffe Island.

Police grew “concerned” for the 64-year-old’s welfare and carried out major search operations on land and water in the Dundee Road and River Tay areas.

A police helicopter has also been involved in the operation.

Following the discovery of the body, officers say there are “no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.50pm on Thursday, 21 December, 2023, a woman’s body was recovered from the River Tay, near Moncrieffe Island.

“No formal identification has taken place, however, officers believe the woman to be Clare Marshall, who was reported missing from Perth on Monday, December 18, 2023.

“Officers have informed her family.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.”
