A woman has tragically died after being attacked by two dogs in Essex. Police say a man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous dog offences following her death.

Emergency services were called to Hillman Avenue in Clacton-on-Sea, Jaywick, at around 4pm on Saturday, February 3. Officers found a woman “seriously injured” before she was pronounced dead a short time later, the Mirror reports.

Police have been carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances which led up to the incident but believe "two dogs had assaulted her." Specialist officers ensured the scene was safe and there was no risk to the wider public, which meant the two dogs had to be put down.

A 39-year-old man from Jaywick remains in custody after he was arrested on suspicion of dangerous dog offences.

Chief Superintendent Glen Pavelin said: "My thoughts, and those of our officers and staff, are with the family of the woman who died yesterday. This incident will be a huge shock to the community and I understand their concerns.
