Université de Moncton will keep its name despite controversial history, and save $4.6M
The university's namesake, Robert Monckton, was responsible for the capture and deportation of Acadians in the 18th century

“Sixty years ago, when the name of the Université de Moncton was identified, it was in consensus with its three campuses and based on the geographical location of its headquarters in the city of Moncton, not on a historical figure,” Denis Mallet, chair of the board of governors, said in a news release.
