Floods in Hpa-an Township: over 7,300 residents take refuge in temporary shelters

A responsible person from a social assistance and rescue group stated that 15 temporary flood shelters have been opened in Hpa-an town, while five shelters have been opened in other areas.
He continued, "According to records, over 7,300 flood victims are taking refuge in the flood shelters at Basic Education High School No. 1, Gyatawya, and the sports stadiums in Hpa-an town. Currently, donors and social assistance and rescue teams are collaborating to provide clean water and food for the flood victims as much as possible."
The flood victims have been taking refuge in the temporary shelters since July 26, and if the flooding continues, there could be additional needs for clean water, food, and medicine, he added.
Similarly, flooding is also occurring in the Myainegalay area due to the rising water levels of the Thanlwin River on the western bank, and six temporary flood shelters have been opened there, with over 600 flood-affected people taking refuge. There are needs for clean water, food, and medicine, according to social assistance and rescue groups.
Currently, it is known from the local residents that the roads at the Sinbyudaw Roundabout to the Kamauk Kasin checkpoint, the Kawkareik-Kawtpran-Zathpyin road, and the Hpa-an-Hlaingbwe road are still flooded.
According to measurements taken on July 29 at 6:30 AM, the water level of the Thanlwin River at Hpa-an town has exceeded the warning level of 750 cm and reached 943 cm, as reported by the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.
