Access to Taungwai mountain road in Mawlamyine suspended from 6 pm to 6 am

Authorities announced on December 14 that no access would be allowed on Taungwai mountain road in Zaykyo ward, Mawlamyine from 6 pm to 6 am.

According to the order, pilgrims can go on the Taungwai Mountain from 6 am to 6 pm. In the past, in the open season like this period, pilgrims used to arrive at the foot of the hill since 4:00 am. They then climb the mountain said a local of Mawlamyine.

“Those visitors went early to see the sunrise. Sometimes they saw sea of clouds. The mountain is mostly crowded on weekends,” added the local.

He assumed that there will be fewer visitors in the future because of the order. The order is confirmed until another order is issued, according to the statement.
