Paloma Faith appears to have taken a cheeky swipe at her close friend, Adele.

The hitmaker appeared on The Great Celebrity Bake Off in aid of Stand Up To Cancer and was quizzed on her commercial success. But during one scene of the show which also stars the likes of Jodie Whittaker and Spice Girls icon Melanie Brown, Paloma shed light on being one of the most recognisable names in pop music.

Host Noel Fielding was keen to speak to Paloma as she started baking her sweet treats for the competition as he quizzed her over her success since finding fame in 2007.

"So are you our biggest pop star at the moment?" asked the comedian. But while Paloma has the success that some can only dream of, including a BRIT Award, over 40 singles and six studio albums, she remained very humble with her response: "I think I'm pretty mediocre."

But the conversation didn't stop there as Noel went on to probe Paloma over who she believes is currently the biggest pop star in the UK. "It's gonna be Adele, isn't it?" Noel asked: "You know her don't you?" Meanwhile, Paloma who famously doesn't mince her words instantly hit back with her response, joking: "Yeah, I do, I love her. I love her a lot, but slightly bitter."

Fans at home were left in fits of laughter as they took to X, formerly known as Twitter to share their thoughts, with one writing: "Paloma on Adele too real, lol," said one. While a second typed: "Paloma is everything!" Another penned: "Paloma saying 'that'll do' about everything is such a mood."

Although Adele famously records hit songs about her former boyfriends and relationships, Paloma recently revealed that she wouldn't disclose the full details of previous romances in songs if her ex-partners didn't have a chance to respond. Speaking previously to the Mirror, Paloma, 42, explained that her sixth album, The Glorification of Sadness, wouldn't be the right place to discuss people who don't have a public platform to respond. "At the time when I was writing it, I didn't think of it becoming a commercial thing," she said.

The Enjoy Yourself singer went on to say: "I was just writing for my own therapy. I did feel that I went through a bit of a mental breakdown during my break-up and I've not felt that displaced or lost, ever in my life. I think it was the thing that replanted or reanchored me, it was therapy. When the body of work started to take form, it felt a bit weird to put that into the world, it felt very private before. That's why I've called it The Glorification of Sadness because it was a commodification of my own life trauma, it's not something that I'm distanced from – it's genuine real life, there's kids involved, it's very sensitive."
