Sam Smith drew attention on the Paris Fashion Week catwalk by storming the runway in a rather revealing outfit.

The 31-year-old singer was among the models selected to showcase the designs from the iconic fashion label at the Autumn Winter 2024 show in the French capital. Founder Vivienne sadly passed away in December 2022 at the age of 81, but her legacy is being carried through by her husband Andreas Kronthaler who crafted the Vivienne Westwood Autumn-Winter 2024/25 collection.

Among the looks were a plethora of familiar Westwood trademark tartan materials which were utilised to create dramatic silhouettes and sharp designs. But the show was almost overshadowed by I'm Not Here to Make Friends singer Sam. They took to the runway for two looks - one seeing them covered head to toe in a black silk material.

But Sam drew more heads when cavorting down the catwalk in a collection of tartan pieces. The star - who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns - sported tartan print boots, tartan socks, a tartan scarf, tartan coat, a v-neck mustard coloured jumper, and another item that covered the star’s lower half but appeared to neither be a skirt nor a leotard nor a pair of shorts.

Sam also sported an elaborate headpiece that had a tartan section and a long, flowing black veil and they took to the catwalk with an impressive staff. The collection divided fans, with some Westwood fans lamenting the lack of magic following Vivienne’s passing.

After the brand shared a collection of images via Instagram, fashion critics seized the opportunity to air their opinions.

Others took the opportunity to discuss the fact Sam was in the line-up of models - with some slamming the brand for giving them the least interesting of the looks. One fan wrote: “They did Sam dirty. Worst look, SO many other options that they would have slayed.” But another thought Sam looked great, writing in defence: “I disagree. I enjoyed taking in each detail and think this look was great.”

Elsewhere, other fashion fans felt reassured by the collection and vowed to continue supporting the designs. One praised the collection writing: "This was a beautiful show!" Another typed simply: “Bravo" - alongside sparkle emojis and others responded with rose emojis and heart emojis illustrating their support and approval. And another wrote: “Well done Andreas and team!! Show was ammmmazing keep it up!!! So much love.”

Sam is far from a wallflower when it comes to taking fashion risks. They caused a stir at the 2023 BRIT Awards when they took to the catwalk in an ambitious leather outfit that was inflated and oversized. And they also raised eyebrows when they sported an outfit made of rope for a magazine shoot in February last year.
