Wynne Evans hastily bought a run-down house that didn't quite charm him at first glance.

The GoCompare advert opera star and winner of Celebrity Masterchef 2023 explained: "My relationship with my home is a bit of an odd one because when I bought the home I live in now it was as a result of getting divorced and I bought quickly. It was the only place I could find that I could get into quickly it was empty, it was somewhat unliveable."

"But I bought it because it had a lot of original architecture and details inside. I mean the ceilings and the doors are just amazing. I've never seen ceilings like it it's like a stately home, incredible. It was in a bit of a mess, windows missing, practically derelict, and I was at the lowest point of my life so I remember thinking: 'What an idiot why have you bought this house? It is a chain around your neck'."

Wynne's top priority once the family settled in, was to make the children's room more cosy. Over time, these rooms fully transformed into unique spaces reflecting his daughter and son's personal tastes.

In the six years since, Wynne has kept on lovingly decorating each room in the detached period property according to his unique style, filling it with things he loves and treasures. The end result is a dream home that's a testament to all his efforts and an eye for detail.

Wynne shared, "I've got quite strange taste I guess quite a flamboyant taste. My bedroom I suppose is kind of out there I've got a picture of John Inman and Mrs Slocombe from the TV show Are You Being Served? in pop art above my bed with a retro neon pink Welsh blanket on the bed and bright yellow walls. It's very eclectic and very different."

He loves to shop at cool places like House of Hackney, Mind the Gap, and Seletti for funky home stuff. When you walk into his house, you can see it right away. Wynne explained, "In the past they'd painted the parquet floor in the hall black so I got it stripped back to the original, put a beautiful Seletti rug down, and chose grey tones in the hall to try and make it darker."

Wynne really likes to use lots of colours and patterns in his home, and he picks special things for each room. He has dark walls in the drawing room that look great with the fancy old ceiling design. The coolest part is the turret with seats and a table that changes into a games table with a roulette wheel. Wynne's place is full of fun surprises and one-of-a-kind finds.

Wynne has transformed each room of his house into a special space that reflects his life, especially now that his children have grown up and moved out. He shared: "There's a music room which basically has my memorabilia from my career. I've got a grand piano in there, one of the originals of the pictures of Gio that would have been on the London Tube from the GoCompare advertising campaign."

He added: "I wanted to do the music room like a theatre so I painted it in a dark velvet red and I've had velvet drapes like stage curtains made to cover the doors in the bay where the piano is. Above that I've had and I know this sounds a bit odd a royal crest made so it looks like the house curtains at the Royal Opera House that's featured in my career."

"My parents saved a theatre from demolition in west Wales and when they refurbished it I managed to source the chairs from there, the old cinema chairs, so I've had them redone in the colours that they would have been originally so in my music room there's old cinema chairs. It's all about making entertainment in that room."

Wynne also treasures a dining table his dad made from his old school science desk. He added: "He made it out of my old science desk when my school got knocked down. For this room I then thought I needed something amazing on the wall so I went with Mind The Gap wallpaper which is pigeons and I put it on all the walls. You don't need any artwork this wallpaper is just incredible."

The bathroom is Wynne's pride and joy, boasting a deep copper bath and a huge walk-in shower. He explained: "When you walk into the bathroom it's a proper 'wow factor' it's got a very deep copper bath with a stainless steel inside plus a massive walk-in shower behind it."

"One of the things that was really important to me was that you could turn the shower on from the side so that you didn't have to get wet while you were waiting for it to warm up I mean who puts the shower controls under the shower?! My shower controls are well away from the shower and I love it."
