I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! star Danielle Harold was almost forced to quit the show when she was hit by a 'really nasty' illness just days into the series. Doctors were called in to the jungle camp 'several times' to the former EastEnders star, 31, after she developed a bad infection but the scenes were never shown on the ITV show.

Danielle, who was the fifth celebrity to be eliminated from the jungle on Thursday night, reportedly lost nearly a stone due to the illness. She shared her health-scare secret with family and friends after leaving the show.

The Sun reports Danielle told a pal: “I felt wiped out, so rough and unwell, but I was determined to stay in there. I hadn’t gone all that way for it to end like that.”

A source added to the publication that the actress had fallen ill right at the start of the show but she kept 'powering through'. They added that she was seen by the camp doctor several times, and the medical professional was 'very concerned'.

“She was really sick but you’d never have known it," they added. "She kept smiling and kept trying her best in camp."

After her exit, Danielle hinted at her health woes. In an interview at the celebrities’ Marriott Hotel on the Gold Coast, Danielle said: “The jungle eats you alive. You have on and off days. There is no food. And my adrenaline gets me so bad.

“It is so tough. But I just smiled, even through the tough times.” Danielle wasn’t the only star to suffer in the jungle. Both Jamie Lynn Spears and Grace Dent quit the show due to medical reasons.

And Fred Sirieix also developed a foot infection and Nick Pickard and Marvin Humes suffered skin conditions.
