Coronation Street's Alex Bain was emotional as he appeared to confirm his exit from the show is looming.

The actor is renowned for his role as Simon Barlow in the long-running soap. Simon has endured a turbulent time in the show lately as he has suffered since his onscreen dad, Peter Barlow, exited Weatherfield.

Fans have feared he will soon follow in Peter's footsteps as they spotted some worrying signs in episodes aired this year. The character has struggled to cope with newcomer, Bobby, and crashed the car when young Sam Blakeman was in the passenger seat.

Alex's future on the show remains up in the air, but he has sent a cryptic message on his social media channels today. He said: "Well my day is done.

"Nice and short today. I'm gonna miss this little space so dearly when I go. So glad I've got some shooting days left. So thankful."

Simon's potential exit would see fans fears realised as many have commented on social media platform X that he will soon quit the show and bring his 15 year stint on the Cobbles to an end. When Simon was drinking alone in the Rovers Return in an episode broadcast on January 23, one user on social media platform X said: "I think this could play but a small part in his exit."

Westie added: "Westie said: "I think Simon has a drinking problem." Ryan commented: "Simon's starting to turn into Peter with how much he's drinking lately"
