Taylor Swift's 'risky move' to rerecord her back catalogue of music amid her master battle has paid off thanks to her loyal fanbase of Swifties, it has been claimed by an expert

Taylor Swift is said to have made a "risky move" to rerecord her back catalogue of music, but according to a public relations expert, her move has paid off thanks to her loyal fanbase.

The 33-year-old hitmaker, who celebrates her birthday later this month, has been on a mission to rerecord her first six albums. She embarked on the journey after the master recordings of her first six albums were sold to music mogul Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta's Ithaca Holdings in 2019.

At the time, Taylor was unhappy, especially since she had been trying to buy back her masters herself. But then after a tweet from Pop Idol alum Kelly Clarkson, who suggested she rerecord her first six albums, that's exactly what she decided to do.

Taylor then called out Justin Bieber's former manager, Scooter, in a Tumblr post. At the time she called the sale to Braun, with whom she isn't friends, a "worst-case scenario" and then she announced she would begin rerecording them.

"This showed bravery on Taylor's part as she didn't know if her plan would work and if her beloved Swiftie would ditch the old ones in favour of the new tracks," Lynn Carratt from Press Box PR told The Mirror in an exclusive chat. She added: "Also, where would somebody as busy as Taylor find the time to record such a massive catalogue of music?"

Taking about Taylor, Lynn described the hitmaker "a rare breed within the music industry", noting how "she is constantly pushing the boundaries and changing the goalposts", with her doing things "her way".

Taylor's first Taylor's Version album, Fearless was released in 2021 and it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Her two subsequent albums swiftly followed with Red (Taylor's Version) and Speak Now (Taylor's Version), also debuting at No. 1. Lynn added: "She is now halfway through her quest and after every rerecord, she sends Kelly Clarkson flowers as a thank you for suggesting the idea."

She went on: "Her risky move has undoubtedly improved her reputation amongst her peers in the music industry, so much so that even U2 have followed suit with their Songs of Surrender album, which has seen them remaking 40 songs from their back catalogue. It has also made her Swifties love her even more - no one has a fanbase more loyal than Taylor Swift."

But Lynn then touched on how some of the major record labels have been left "unhappy after watching her rack up billions of streams with her remastered 'Taylor's Version' of her original hits over the past couple of years". She noted: "It has simultaneously driven down the value of those original recordings sold away from her (which was the plan). Now, record companies are being ultra-cautious and have been working towards stopping this sort of thing from happening again by overhauling contracts from new artists."

This comes as fans anticipate the release of the rerecording of Taylor's 2017 album Reputation. Fans were convinced it would be released last weekend, but now all bets are on New Year's Eve, New Year's Day or at an Eras Tour show in February.
