Christmas is just around the corner, which means the new year is not far behind. January is shaping up to be a packed month with loads of great films and shows on the way to kick off 2024 with a bang.

With the new year comes Marvel’s Echo, Sky’s True Detective and Apple TV+’s Masters of the Air. As well as all this great content, the highly anticipated adult animated musical comedy Hazbin Hotel will finally make its streaming debut.

The devilishly funny new series is set in a hotel in Hell and is based on Vivienne Medrano’s popular animated pilot released on YouTube in 2019, which quickly gained over 92 million views and a global fan base. The series blends adult humour, unforgettable characters and catchy musical numbers to create a wholly original and unique world.

Hazbin Hotel is produced by A24 – the acclaimed indie studio behind projects including Everything Everywhere All At Once, Uncut Gems, Midsommar, Moonlight and Euphoria – and FOX Entertainment’s Emmy award-winning animation studio Bento Box Entertainment. Here, we break down everything you need to know about Hazbin Hotel.

What is Hazbin Hotel about?

Hazbin Hotel follows Charlie Morningstar– the princess of Hell – as she pursues her seemingly impossible goal of rehabilitating demons to peacefully reduce overpopulation in her kingdom. After a yearly extermination imposed by angels, she opens a hotel in the hopes that patrons will be ‘checking out’ into Heaven.

While most of Hell mocks her goal, her devoted partner Vaggie – and their first test subject, adult film-star Angel Dust – stick by her side. When a powerful entity known as the “Radio Demon” reaches out to assist Charlie in her endeavours, her crazy dream is given a chance to become reality.
