Coronation Street’s Chris Gascoyne has opened up about his character’s departure from the cobbles. The actor, who’s played Peter Barlow on and off since 2000, starred in his final scenes which aired on Boxing Day.

Fans were left heartbroken when Peter’s partner Carla Connor gave him a boarding pass on Christmas Day so he could travel, and Peter left Weatherfield on Boxing Day. But the actor hasn’t ruled out a return to the cobbles in the future, the Mirror reports.

Discussing his Corrie exit, Chris admitted that there was a “thing that upset me” when it came to filming his final scenes, and also shared his plans for the future. Taking to BBC news about his on-screen character’s exit, Chris said: "The thing that upset me though was walking away from the people I work with and I don’t just mean the actors.
