British illustrator Posy Simmonds wins top prize at Angoulême comics festival

Since 1974, the international comics festival in the French town of Angoulême has welcomed the best of the world's illustrators. This year the top prize was awarded to Britain's Posy Simmonds, making her just the fifth woman in the festival's history to receive the honour. She spoke to Alison Sargent about her work, her connection to Paris and her joy at being one of the first women to "infiltrate" the predominantly male world of comics. We also look at a new graphic novel from FRANCE 24's Stéphanie Trouillard, based on a photo taken at Auschwitz of a young member of the French Resistance defiantly smiling at her Nazi captors. We end with drawings by Japanese illustrator Moto Hagio, a pioneer of Shōjo manga, created for adolescent girls and young women.
