Prince William insisted on one demand for Carole Middleton at King's Coronation

The Prince of Wales made sure that the Middleton family played a part in the King's big day last May according to claims made in a new royal book.

Prince William was very "insistent" on one thing when it came to his father King Charles III's historical Coronation and his demand involved his mother-in-law Carole Middleton, according to a new royal book.

New claims made in Robert Hardman's new biography Charles III: The Inside Story state that William refused to budge on his demand over his wife Kate Middleton's family being included on the big day.

The Prince of Wales was reportedly so adamant that there was no option but to grant his request, the Mirror reports.

Hardman believes that this decision shows just how much things have really changed within the Royal Family since the beginning of the late Queen Elizabeth's reign, which lasted 70 years.

The author wrote that Prince William made a "direct request" that the Middleton family were to be in attendance and seated in a pretty high-profile position.

Hardman pointed out that this was in direct contrast to some of the old guard of the extended Royal Family, with the Queen Mother's family -the Bowes Lyons - having only two members there to represent them.

The journalist also noted in the book that Prince Philip's family, the Mountbattens, were only represented by Countess Mountbatten, with other relatives left off the guest list entirely during the Queen's Coronation in 1953.

Even Lady Pamela Hicks, one of the former members of the Royal Household under the late Queen, was snubbed.

However Kate's parents Michael and Carole Middleton as well as her two siblings James and Pippa were all invited along to the historical day that officially marked the start of the new reign.

Hardman explained this was a "direct request from the Prince of Wales himself" as he quoted an anonymous source saying: "'Having all of them there was very important to him... he was absolutely insistent that his wife's family be properly included'."

Comparing these new changes to the former monarch's Coronation, the book reads: "Such are the shifting sands, that, seventy years on, the Middletons outnumber the Mountbattens four to one."

It has long been known that King Charles is eager to adopt a slimmed down monarchy in line with many of the other European royal houses.

This would mean fewer working royals who are funded by taxpayers to ensure that the House of Windsor is as inexpensive as possible for the public and also in line with the modern world.

The fresh claims come after the Middleton family were recently dramatised in the final series of Netflix's The Crown, in a depiction of Carole in particular which one member of their extended family condemned as "evil".
