There had been some recent speculation that the footballer, 21 and model Mia, 21, had called it quits on their relationship and Romeo has now taken to social media to confirm that the rumours are true.
Romeo, who is the second son of David Beckham, 48, and Victoria Beckham, 49, posted a photo of him and his ex-girlfriend on Instagram together this weekend has he revealed they had gone their separate ways.
He wrote: "Mooch and I have parted ways after 5 years of love, we still have a lot of love for each other, and still hold a strong friendship and always will."
Mia also issued a statement on the platform as she said that the pair had "friendzoned each other", the Mirror reports.
She added that she and Romeo have "lots of love" for one another as she said that "love takes different forms".
Writing alongside a photo of them, she penned: "This is Ro, we have grown up with each other since we were 16. Love takes different forms & paths as you mature.
"We aren't tougher [sic] romantically but we do share lots & lots of love for one another ... after 5 years we friendzoned each other hehe."
The former couple, who started dating in 2019, are said to have last been seen together in public at the British Fashion Awards in London in December.
A source teased their breakup to the Mirror recently ahead of the confirmation.
The insider said: "Romeo and Mia had a fallout… they aren’t together at the moment. They were living together, but Mia has apparently moved out of the place they shared and is staying with her parents.
"They've split up in the past and got back together again, but this time it feels more serious – Mia moving out obviously points to it being more than just a tiff."
The source continued: "While Romeo was playing for Inter Miami, he and Mia both found the long-distance relationship difficult.
"But Romeo really felt that Mia was the one for him so after he returned to Brentford, he was keen to give things another go."
However, they added: "Unfortunately, they seem to have hit yet another bump in the road and only time will tell if they patch things up.
"It will be a shame if they can’t, as Mia is a big favourite with Romeo's family. But ultimately, everyone just wants them both to be happy."
