Teacher explains what codes like 'EBI' on children's homework mean
Teachers will leave various codes on work they've marked, such as WT, WA, GD and KSCIE
by Kate Lally, Steven Smith · NottinghamshireLiveEagle-eyed children and their parents may often notice different codes on their homework and wonder what they mean. A teacher has now moved to explain.
Miss Frankie, who posts on TikTok as @missfrankie1, said there were various codes used on homework by herself and colleagues. Each has a different meaning.
She said such codes were used to help teachers communicate with each other. There are many codes, from KCSIE to WWW, reports the Liverpool ECHO.
In a TikTok video that has now amassed hundreds of thousands of likes and views, Miss Frankie spoke to her friend, Zoe, to see if she could decipher the codes. She captioned the video: "Seeing if my friend knows teacher terminology."
In the clip, she said: "Okay, I'm a primary school teacher and Zoe's a midwife. So I'm going to ask her what some of these acronyms mean that I use in work."
She then started with the term LO, which means learning objectives, then she moved on to PP/FSM, and she explained this means "pupil premium" and "free school meals".
She continued: "If I honour a child's work when I'm marking it, I will put an EBI and a WWW." Miss Frankie then explained that EBI stands for "even better if" and WWW stands for "'what went well".
She then explained what WT, WA, and GD mean - "working towards", "working at an expected level" and "greater depth", respectively. The last code is KCSIE, which she explains means "keeping children safe in education".
