Actor Kangana Ranaut has been speaking about rejecting films with top Bollywood actors and directors in the past. During a promotional interview for her latest film, 'Emergency', the actor recalled rejecting major movies offered to her by Akshay Kumar. She said she had her reasons and she explained the same to Akshay as well.

Kangana, who plays the role of former Indian Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi, in 'Emergency', told NBT that Akshay offered her a role in 'Singh Is Bliing'. The film ended up featuring Amy Jackson in the lead. Kangana said she told Akshay to understand that the role wasn't respectful towards women.

Kangana said, "Akshay Kumar called me for 'Singh Is Bliing'. Then he called me again for a couple of films. Then he asked 'do you have a problem with me, Kangana?’ I said 'sir, I really don’t have a problem with you'. He asked 'then why? I am giving you such good roles'. I said 'please understand, you also have a daughter. We want integrity for women'."

When Kangana rejected films with Salman Khan

In another interview, the actor spoke about refusing to work with Salman Khan in 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' and 'Sultan'. She told Siddharth Kanan in an interview that she didn't find the role in the Kabir Khan-directorial strong enough for her. Kangana added that she also didn't find 'Sultan' perfect for her resume. The film eventually starred Anushka Sharma opposite Salman.

The actor said, "Salman offered me a role in 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan', I was like 'Yeh kya role diya hai [what is this role?]. He then approached me for 'Sultan'. I didn’t take that up. He was like 'What more do I offer to you now?'," adding that despite all the rejections, Salman always behaved kindly towards her.

In the same interview, she also criticised Ranbir Kapoor's 'Animal' for being unnecessarily violent. She said, "They're just piling up dead bodies. And why? Just for fun. It's not for public welfare or the protection of borders. Only for fun. They just take drugs and have fun."

Kangana's 'Emergency', which is also directed and produced by her, is slated to hit the screens on September 6. The film also stars Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade and the late Satish Kaushik in important roles.
