by Gemma Ross | Photo: Tottenham Hotspur · MixmagTottenham Hotspur F.C. reserve goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman has secured his first-ever mix on NTS Radio.
Whiteman, who first joined the Tottenham Academy in 2015, announced his debut on the London station on Monday, sharing on his Instagram story: “I’m live on NTS until 8PM - tune in!”
The hour-long mix spans folk, soul, psychedelic rock, and jazz, and includes tracks from the likes of Cocteau Twins, Elliot Smith, and a cut from Floating Points’ 2021 collaboration with Pharoah Sanders and The London Symphony Orchestra, ‘Promises’.
Speaking to Mixmag, Alfie explains: "This was my first time doing a live show. Before this, I was just making mixes and playlists on my laptop and sharing them with friends."
"I've always had a deep interest in listening to and discovering new music, so I was grateful for this opportunity," he says.

The mix also includes a track from John Maus, ‘And Heaven Turned To Her Weeping’, as well as a cut from the score of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, ‘Phone Call’.
“Professional footballer & artist Alfie Whiteman puts together a show sharing an assorted mix of what he’s been listening to this month to get him through the start of year sadness,” reads the NTS mix blurb mix blurb. Listen below.

His NTS show marks the first time he’s branched out into radio mixes - although there’s no news on whether this is a one-off show or the start of a lengthier residency.
In a get-to-know interview on the Spurs website, Alfie spoke about his music taste and love of jazz music, explaining that he'd rather see his favourite acts in an "intimate club" rather than a big venue.
Last month, the 25-year-old goalkeeper signed a new contract with Tottenham Hotspur until 2025. During his time with the London team, Alfie has played just once in replacement of Joe Hart, appearing in the 82nd minute against Ludogorets Razgrad in 2020.
Whiteman isn’t the first footballer to try his hand at DJing. Last year, Man City’s Jack Grealish announced his DJ debut alongside Oliver Heldens under the name DJ Grealo. Monki, a celebrated house DJ and Defected signee, also plays semi-professionally for Dulwich Hamlet F.C.
