Bookies have made Cillian Murphy an early favourite to take home the Best Actor Oscar at the 96 Academy Awards in Los Angeles.

The Cork star is 1/3 favourite with BoyleSports to lift the Best Actor statuette on March 10, 2024.

The Oppenheimer star has been lauded for his portrayal of the title character in Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster. Murphy took home the Best Actor award at the Golden Globes earlier this month, but he lost out in a shock that stunned everyone, he lost the Critics Choice Award to Paul Giamatti.

Brian O’Keeffe, spokesperson for BoyleSports, said: “With the nominations now official for the biggest awards bash of the year, excitement is building as Oppenheimer could bag one of the biggest Oscar hauls ever.

“Christopher Nolan and Cillian Murphy look sure things for the Best Director and Best Actor gongs to bolster the blockbuster’s 11 other nominations.”

With three Oscar nominations already under his belt for Silver Linings Playbook, American Sniper and A Star is Born, Bradley Cooper was well touted to end his Oscars drought this year with Maestro.

The Hollywood heartthrob was a short priced 7/4 to break his duck at the Academy Awards when betting got underway but has since drifted to 4/1 as punters think he will be snubbed once again.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, which is 1/8 favourite for Best Picture, has already smashed several records since its release in July, including the title of highest grossing biopic of all time, seizing the crown from Bohemian Rhapsody.
