Davina McCall has opened up about her emotional time working on the latest series of Long Lost Family. The former Big Brother presenter said she felt "deeply honoured" to have been involved in reuniting families over the past 13 years, as the show gears up for its 14th season.

"This is a brilliant series," she said in a recent interview with TV Times. "It's about the human spirit. People watch the show to feel warmth but you're also crying for every love you've lost yourself, because we can all relate to people's pain."

In the new seven-part series, Davina and co-presenter Nicky Campbell will help people with their emotional searches, including one woman searching for the daughter she hasn't seen in more than 60 years.

Davina said it was an "unbelievable privilege that people share this experience with us," despite the difficult challenges they face along the way, reports OK!, reports the Mirror.

This series also includes a 'special episode' looking into the heartbreaking stolen babies scandal in Spain, which first emerged in the 2000s. It's believed that between 1939 and 1975, during General Francisco Franco's dictatorship, hundreds of thousands of babies were taken from their families, often being told their child had died. The children were then given to other families with false documents.

"The birth mothers have terrible stories," Davina said, moved by their experiences. She remains hopeful for family reunions but is acutely aware of the potential trauma that can arise when adoptees uncover their past and the profound impact it can have. It's complicated, but also an amazing story," she reflected.

The chemistry between Davina and her co-presenter Nicky is palpable both on and off the screen, something that viewers got a glimpse of during her stint on ITV1's The Masked Singer earlier this year.

Despite their close bond, Davina was taken aback when she didn't recognise Nicky's voice while he was disguised as Dippy Egg on the show, confessing she "didn't understand" how she missed it.

Nicky's vocal prowess wasn't the only thing that surprised her; his personality also revealed layers she hadn't anticipated. Initially finding him somewhat daunting, she admitted, "He's clever, quick-witted and doesn't suffer fools. But I know him now as a completely different person from the one I thought."

Davina then disclosed the gentler aspects of the tough journalist, remarking, "There's something sweet and innocent about Nicky. He's this hard-nosed journalist, but he's so soft."

Commenting on Nicky's personal connection to adoption, Davina commended his empathetic approach, calling him "sensitive and kind". She concluded with a sincere tribute to her co-host: "I have enormous respect for him and love him with all my heart."
