What is soft swinging - the sharable sex act made famous by The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is the most binge-watch-worthy reality TV show that has been released in while, but what exactly is soft swinging, and how does one swing softly?
by Sarah Magliocco · RSVP LiveReality TV is one of the most popular genres, and The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Disney+'s latest reality TV feature, is taking the world by storm.
The show follows a group of women living in Utah, USA, who are all connected to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (popularly known as the Morman Church) and who are all connected to each other by social media, being part of a TikTok collective known as MomTok.
MomTok got its name as all of the women involved are young mothers, with many of them getting married and having children in their late teens and early 20s.

Among the group is it's founder, a 28 year old woman named Taylor Frankie Paul, who says that she and her husband divorced after they allegedly engaged in "soft swinging" and Tylor overstepped on the boundaries of their agreement.
Taylor said they would "soft swing" with other couple they knew, though none of the other women featured on the show say they were involved.
According to a relationships structure glossary, "soft swinging is "the custom of engaging in sexual activities with your partner in the same room as another couple, but not swapping or sharing partners."
"Soft swinging is seen as the gateway to full swinging. It provides the opportunity for couples, who are new to the ‘swinging scene’, to become comfortable with engaging in sexual acts in front of others. Before they progress onto partner swapping and full swinging."
However, in other definitions "soft swinging" does involve partner swapping, but vaginal or anal intercourse are off the table.
Instead, sex acts like digital or oral sex may be allowed, as well as kissing or intimate touching.People may choose to try out soft swinging as a way to experience sexual intimacy with new partners, even while in long-term relationships.
In Taylor's words, she called soft swinging, "when you just hook up but you don’t go all the way.
"To be honest, we had an agreement, like all of us, and I did step out of that agreement."
Taylor revealed her past with soft swinging in a TikTok live video, and she addresses the matter in the Disney+ show, and the other cast members give their reactions and understandings too.
Swinging in general is known as a relationship style that incorporates ethical non-monogamy (ENM).
Within ENM, partners can be intimate with other people in a way that is prearranged with their partner. One or both partners may engage in the activity.
It is different to polyamory, as p olyamory specifically refers to multiple loving relationships. ENM is more of a blanket term for any arrangement where people have multiple consensual romantic or sexual experiences.
