Taylor Swift fans think she responded to Kanye West’s new album’s lyrics about her and Travis Kelce
One Swiftie called her a “comedian” for the alleged jab.
by Emily Tannenbaum · Glamour UKSwifties bet Kanye West thinks about Taylor Swift and her NFL boyfriend Travis Kelce.
On August 3, fans were surprised to hear Swift and Kelce mentioned on the 47-year-old rapper’s new album, Vultures 2. Though West doesn’t call out the couple himself, the pop star and football player were both name-checked on the track “Lifestyle (Demo)” by featured rapper Lil Wayne.
“I twist my Taylor spliffs tight at the end like Travis Kelce,” Lil Wayne raps in his verse, referring to Kelce’s position on the Kansas City Chiefs.
As you probably (definitely) know, Taylor Swift and Kanye West have a tumultuous history, which dates back to his infamous mic grab at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. Things only got worse when West released “Famous” in 2016, featuring the lyrics, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that bitch famous.” (West later released a music video featuring a naked wax figure of Swift, which she described as “revenge porn.”)
Taylor Swift rebuked the “Famous” lyrics at the 2016 Grammy Awards, leading West’s then-wife Kim Kardashian to leak an edited phone call that appeared to prove Swift had approved the lyrics before the song was released. Four years later, the further footage backed up Swift’s claim that she never heard the lyric calling her a “bitch,” though the damage to her mental health had already been done.
“You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar,” Swift said in her Time’s Person of the Year interview in December 2023. “That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before. I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls. I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard.”
Comparatively, Kanye West’s new track didn’t seem to provoke a big reaction from Swift…though fans don’t think it went unnoticed. According to some Swifties, the pop star took a subtle jab at West by wearing her “I Bet You Think About Me” slogan T-shirt during the Red portion of her Warsaw Eras Tour performance on August 3.
“She’s so funny for wearing the I bet you think about me shirt after Ka*ye name dropped her and Travis in his song,” wrote one X.com user who described Swift as “an actual comedian.”
Technically, Lil Wayne is the one who actually raps about Swift, but the point still stands — at least, according to the 7,000+ Swifties who liked the post.
Meanwhile, Travis Kelce doesn’t seem to have acknowledged the lyric at all. Last we heard, he was too busy taking a fan’s breath away and blaming it on the “Taylor Swift effect.” Now that’s a name-check fans will be delighted to hear.
