Sharing her reality of shopping for groceries in the UK, the woman fumed after spending £17 on six items from Tesco, the Daily Star reports. The customer posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, to share what she had bought.
Her quick shop includes fresh salmon, an oil spray, chilli sauce, a bottle of soy sauce, Panko breadcrumbs and a small bag of vegetables.
She posted: "£17 for this WITH a Clubcard. Country is FINISHED oh my days." She clarified: "Guys pls I legit jus popped to Tesco Express to grab some ingredients to make a meal TONIGHT before a food shop tomorrow. Please stop with your technicalities about the brands and going to an Express to try and justify this cause £17 for all of this is still ridiculous sorry lmao."
The post attracted more than 1.4 million views and many agreed with her. "It's not cheaper to eat at home anymore," said one individual.
Another said: "£17?! Excuse me?! What time is the chef coming yard to cook this for you? Because for £17 I am just going to a restaurant."
A third commented: "Things are just too expensive." Another X user wrote: "£17? I'm dead."
However some comments pointed out that the woman had picked up "expensive" items, such as salmon and Panko breadcrumbs - suggesting she should opt for cheaper alternatives in the future.
But another woman defended the Tesco shopper, and said: "The replies explaining how you could settle for worse quality/less convenience to save money and ignoring the excessive cost of living in a really sub-optimal society are the problem. Why are you so desperate to defend the uncontrolled profiteering that's rife in this country."
One other said: "Security tag on salmon... this is a third world country man." While another added: "It's the fact the salmon fillets are security protected."
