There’s a 70p gadget that makes your radiators MUCH hotter and could cut energy bills by hundreds. One expert has issued the warning to British Gas, EDF, E.On, Ovo and Octopus households and customers amid the energy crisis, ahead of the Ofgem price cap rising to nearly £2k.

Every winter, UK households face £300 to £500 payments to fix their radiator systems, according to Checkatrade. But people are being told they can fix them themselves - using just a cheap 70p tool that is able to clean away the "sludge" that builds up in your radiator systems.

A radiator key can 'bleed' the unit of all the air that isn't supposed to be in the unit. If you don't bleed your radiators, it could stop them from running properly. "The air pockets prevent the heated water circulating so remember to check your radiators regularly for cold patches and, if there are any, bleed them," one expert warned.

On its website, British Gas - one of the major UK suppliers - says slot your radiator bleed key into the bleed point of your radiator, holding the tissue just underneath. Slowly turn the key anti-clockwise to open the radiator bleed valve slightly without removing it – you’ll hear the air escaping as a hissing sound.

This is completely normal, so there’s no need to panic. Once you let out all the air (when the hissing stops), close the valve by turning the key clockwise, being sure not to over-tighten. After the air has gone, water will start coming up through the hole – so you’ll need to close it quickly to avoid any spillages, the energy firm goes on to say.

Then, feel the top of the radiator. You should start to feel it warming up again as normal - meaning it is fixed.
