Budget 2025 may contain energy credit of up to €250
by Mícheál Lehane, https://www.facebook.com/rtenews/ · RTE.ieThe Government is considering a budget energy credit of possibly up to €250, it has emerged.
But no decision has yet been made yet on the final details of the credit or whether it should be paid over one or two payments.
As budget preparations intensify, it is clear that Government spending on one off measures will be less than last year.
This comes after broad agreement on the outline of the budget was agreed by party leaders and the Ministers for Finance and Public Expenditure last night.
The measures aimed at assisting people with the cost of living topped €2 billion last year but spending this year will likely be somewhere between €1 billion and €2 billion due to the easing of inflation.
Meanwhile, progress has also been made on exempting farmers from the land hoarding tax which is set to be included in the budget.
Work on the mechanism to exclude farmers is said to be nearing completion.
