A funding programme offering grants totalling nearly £350,000 is now open for applications.

The third round of the region’s Community Led Local Development Fund aims to help charities and community groups to small and medium sized enterprises.

A local action group – supported by Third Sector Dumfries and Galloway and made up of representatives from third, public and private sectors – will decide what applicants are successful.

Bids are encouraged from rural areas, although bids will be considered from Dumfries and Stranraer on the basis the majority of the beneficiaries live outwith the town.

Priorities for this round of funding including contributing to net zero, helping tackle rural isolation and inequality, eradicating poverty and funding work for local place plan developments.

Small revenue grants of up to £5,000 are on offer, with main revenue grants of up to £50,000 available.

Local action group chairman, Harry Harbottle, said: “Whether it be problems with lack of transport denying access to jobs, dealing with hard to heat community buildings, local solutions around lack of affordable child care, or articulating community needs through place planning, we will be able to use these funds to start addressing these and other issues in settlements around Dumfries and Galloway.

“We know that communities are nimble when it comes to identifying local issues and proposals on how to deal with them and we are particularly keen to see novel ways in how these issues can be addressed.”

Deadline for applications is August 12. For more details, visit www.tsdg.org.uk/clld/
