A spokesperson for revenue told the Irish Mirror that investigations into this seizure are ongoing.

This seizure is part of revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the shadow economy and the supply and sale of illegal tobacco products.

It follows a seizure one day prior on Wednesday, March 20 in which €25,000 worth of illegal cigarettes were nabbed by officers. As a result of an intelligence-led operation and with the assistance of detector dog Toby, revenue officers seized 36,060 cigarettes during the search, under warrant, of a premises in Louth.

The illicit cigarettes, of various brands, have a combined retail value of €25,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €19,800.
