Psyonix has announced that Rocket League will be going free to play. Players will soon be able to download and play the game for free when a new update rolls out later this summer.

As detailed over on the Rocket League website, the game will be going free to play in the summer — although no actual date has been specified. The new update will introduce cross-platform progression (via an Epic Games account), a revamp of features such as Tournaments and Challenges, and a newly designed menu system to "make exploring the game easier". The Psyonix team will be revealing more on the game's new features soon but also states there will be no changes to gameplay with the update.

Those who have played the game before Rocket League goes free to play will be rewarded with "Legacy Status" which includes a bunch of free DLC content. Players will receive:

  • All Rocket League-branded DLC packs released before free to play
  • “Est. 20XX” title that displays the first year you played Rocket League
  • 200+ Common items upgraded to “Legacy” quality
  • Golden Cosmos Boost
  • Dieci-Oro Wheels
  • Huntress Player Banner

Players who have also jumped into an online game will receive the Faded Cosmos Boost for free too. All of these rewards will be granted when Rocket League goes free to play. All current content in inventories will be unaffected and will still be available to use.

This, of course, means that players will be able to grab a bunch of free Gamerscore. Rocket League has a total of 77 achievements worth 2200 Gamerscore. The base game takes around eight to ten hours to complete, with various title updates adding an estimated 19 hours. Here is the full list of Rocket League achievements.

Rocket League will be going free to play sometime later this summer.
