The dramatic end to the Championship season means Brentford and Fulham will be in the play-offs.

Both West London clubs had been in contention for automatic promotion going into the final round of fixtures on Wednesday evening but neither were secure second place.

West Bromwich Albion's draw with QPR ruled Fulham out of the running for the top two but it did open up an opportunity for Brentford to win promotion.

Yet the Bees lost 2-1 to Barnsley and instead must turn their attentions to the play-offs.

The other two teams in the play-offs are Cardiff City and Swansea City, who completed an incredible turnaround to pip Nottingham Forest to sixth place.

Swansea needed a win, a Nottingham Forest defeat and five-goal swing in goal difference to go above Forest and they ran out 4-1 winners over Reading.

Forest crashed to a 4-1 defeat to Stoke to hand the Swans the final play-off spot.
