CHULA VISTA, Calif. (AP) - A man who was shot and killed by police in a San Diego suburb was a gang member wanted for attempted murder in two shootings and a person of interest in a third attack, authorities said Tuesday.

David Angulo, 33, was killed Monday after he stole a pickup truck at gunpoint, fled officers, crashed the truck and tried to get into a house before firing a shot at officers, police said.

Angulo was a suspect in the June 4 shooting of a gang member in a Chula Vista parking lot and the June 22 Chula Vista shooting of a man he knew during a dispute over a woman, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Both men survived.

Angulo also was a person of interest in a late June shooting in San Diego.

He also had several felony convictions, including one for carjacking.

Angula was under surveillance shortly before 5:20 p.m. Monday when a member of a the regional Fugitive Task Force saw him steal a Ford F-150 at gunpoint but wasn’t able to stop him police said.

After about a 10-minute high-speed chase, the truck crashed into a Jeep Renegade, Lt. Dan Peak said.

The Jeep driver was treated for a head injury and was expected to recover, Peak said.

Angulo got out of the stolen truck and, with a gun in his hand, tried to run into a nearby house that had an open door but someone inside shut it, Peak said.

Angulo turned back towards officers, refused to surrender and fired at least one shot and died at the scene when three officers opened fire, Peak said.
