Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the very respected overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has recalled how his alcohol-drinking friends deserted him.
Adeboye, who has become an inspiration to Nigerians and many parts of the world with his religious teachings, and recounted how he changed from his former social lifestyle after he became a 'born-again'.
The clergyman made this reference when he advised his followers and admirers on how to pick their friends.
Using sections of the Bible, the holy book of the Christians, Adeboye noted that some friends are only there to pull one down while others would assist to lift one up.

"Choose your friends wisely. Before I became born again, I had friends with whom I regularly drank alcoholic wines.
"Then, I met Christ and my lifestyle changed. When my friends visited, I served them non-alcoholic drinks, and before long, they realised that things were different, and withdrew from me.
"It was painful to lose my friends then, but I let them go because I didn't want them to drag me back to the world," he said.
He noted that over time, God replaced those friends with a lot of brothers and sisters all over the world.
"I have made new friends who have helped me in my walk with God. It is this kind of friend that you should have too - friends who will draw you closer to God, challenge you to pursue your dreams, pray with you when you are down and whose positive impact on your life will be evident to all," he added.

He, however, warned that such friends are not many.
"Even if it is only one of such you can find, he/she is better than a hundred others who would pull you down," he said.

It was gathered that the Nigerian cleric during a live broadcast on Dove Television on Sunday, June 14, said every form of punishment that could be given to one who molests cannot be considered too severe.
