Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has reiterated that the Kumbh Mela will be held in Haridwar as scheduled in 2021.

He said this while chairing a meeting with members of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad (ABAP) head Narendra Giri, other Akhada members and Urban Development minister Madan Kaushik on Wednesday. Stating that swift action will be taken on the ideas and suggestions of ABAP members, he asked them to communicate their issues to Kaushik.

Stressing that the Kumbh Mela will be held as scheduled in 2021, he said that the scale and form of the event will depend on the situation at that time.

Rawat said that the Akhadas which have land to provide facilities for devotees at their level will be provided money in the form of grant. Departmental officials will be deputed to check the quality of work and other aspects. The CM further stressed that all permanent works underway in Haridwar will be completed before the Kumbh Mela. He said that work is being undertaken at a swift pace on construction of bridges and roads leading to Haridwar.

Rawat also assured the ABAP members that their issues will be swiftly resolved. Special focus will be laid on reconstruction of roads leading to the Akhadas, removing encroachments and ensuring sanitation.

The ABAP president Narendra Giri requested the CM to name the ghats in Kumbh Mela after the tutelary deities of the 13 Akhadas and the sectors after the Akhadas.

He also requested Rawat to direct the officials concerned to facilitate work on repairing roads leading to the Akhadas, electricity connection, water supply, sanitation and repair of toilets among other works.
