Yaya Toure reckons Manchester City have to score if they want to beat Real Madrid and progress in the Champions League.

As part of his hugely successful eight years at the club where he established himself as one of the best midfielders the Premier League has seen, the midfielder also helped the Blues to their best-ever Champions League performance in 2017 when they were narrowly defeated by Real Madrid in the semi-finals.

City's chairman was critical of the tame manner of that exit as they failed to score across two legs, but the problem under Pep Guardiola has been stopping their opponents from scoring in knockout games.

Since his arrival at the club, the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager has tried to get his side to attack leads rather than defend them. And Toure believes that may have to be the solution against Real Madrid because trying to hold onto the 2-1 advantage from the first leg could be problematic.

"I think it's going to be 50/50 because without fans it is complicated," Toure told Leyton Orient's channel, the League Two club where he has begun training to keep his fitness levels up as he gears up for a new challenge next season.

"Real Madrid will be in good confidence having won La Liga two weeks ago. You just have to win because to draw against Madrid...It is going to be hard for City if they don't score one goal."

Guardiola's side are currently preparing for the second leg of their last-16 tie with Real Madrid, and have been focusing on the Champions League since it became clear two months ago that there was a viable path for the season to be completed.
