The exception which allows Man City v Real Madrid to go ahead at Etihad
by BeSoccer · BeSoccerThe chances of Man City v Real Madrid taking place at the Etihad Stadium have not gone away completely. Despite the new measures announced by the UK Government, the minister for Cultura, Media and Sport announced exceptions which affect sporting events like football.
The UK Government announced they would put a 14 day quarantine on all those who travel to Spain which means that the Champions League game between Man City and Real Madrid could be played in Portugal.
But the match could actually be played in England. According to the English press, the minister for Culture, Media and Sport, Oliver Dowden, has said there are exceptions.
At the beginning of this month, the minister revealed that sports like Golf, Formula One, Cricket, and international football will not be affected by quarantine.
'The Sun' is one of the British media outlets which says that the match between City and Madrid will be held at the Etihad Stadium despite the new COVID-19 rules.
That said, it will be played until strict security measures, the health protocol will be applied and it will be behind closed doors. The players and coaching staff will be enclosed in a biosecure bubble.
'Los Blancos' will travel to Manchester on the same day of the game, 7th August, and return straight afterwards. Man City are in a good position in the tie as they have a 1-2 lead.
