Nigeria's coronavirus cases rises above 41,000 as NCDC announces 648 new infections

Nigeria's Covid-19 has now risen above 41,000 threshold after 648 new cases were reported on Monday, July 27, in what brought the total infection figure in the country to 41,180.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) which announced the new infections in a tweet, Lagos state tops the list of the cases with 180 while it was followed by Plateau which recorded 148.

The FCT and Ondo state recorded 44 and 42 cases respectively. Kwara state also has its share of 38 while Rivers and Oyo states have 32 and 29 respectively.

The NCDC went on to note that a total number of 18,203 have recovered while 860 deaths have been recorded.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that NCDC reported that there are 555 new cases of COVID-19, taking the total number of infections in the country to 40,532.

The new infections were confirmed by the national health agency on Sunday night, July 26.

Data from the agency shows that the new infections were recorded in 18 states with Lagos having the highest number of infections.

In a related development, NCDC urged Nigerians to wear face masks as precautionary measures in curbing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

The director-general of NCDC, Chikwe Ihekweazu, said this on Monday, July 27, in Abuja at the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 briefing.

Ihekweazu said most Nigerians lament that using face masks was stressful. The DG, however, noted that wearing face masks was less cumbersome when compared to being on a ventilator.

He also advised Nigerians on the need to take responsibility by ensuring safety to ensure that their lives and those of their loved ones were preserved.
