An uninsured driver was involved in a two-car crash which left a woman in hospital at the weekend.

Bethulie Road, in Pear Tree, Derby, was closed on Sunday night due to a collision between a Seat Leon and a Fiat Stilo.

The Fiat driver, a 50-year-old woman, was taken to hospital following the crash with what police believed to be minor injuries.

Officers say the Seat driver, a 29-year-old from Derby, was found to have no insurance and was reported for that offence, and the vehicle was seized.

The passenger in the Seat, a 24-year-old from Derby, was found to be in possession of a substance believed to be cannabis and was given a warning.

The crash took place in Bethulie Road before 9pm, with fire, police and the ambulance service called to the scene.

A spokesperson for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the roof of one of the vehicles involved had to be fully removed.

Members of the public were advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes where possible.

The road, which runs between St Thomas Road and Portland Street, reopened just before 11pm.
