Investigation after horse 'set alight' in Dublin

An investigation is under way after a horse was rescued in north county Dublin with injuries consistent with being set on fire.

Gardaí have begun an animal cruelty investigation.

The DSPCA, who assisted gardaí, said the animal was found to be in poor condition with injuries consistent with being "set alight".

The incident happened in the early hours of this morning at Darndale, Coolock.

The horse was taken to the DSPCA Rescue Centre and was examined by vets where he remains in their care.

In a post on social media, the DSPCA said the young stallion was suffering from burns on his face and neck with a burnt mane and eye lashes.

Gardaí said no arrests have been made at this time and investigations are ongoing.
