Teenager stabbed to death in south Manchester during 'clash between groups of youths' named - the murder investigation continues

The 17-year-old boy who was stabbed to death in south Manchester on Sunday has been named as Mamoud Mohammed.

He suffered fatal injuries when he was stabbed during a clash between two rival groups.

Police and paramedics were called to to a disturbance on Henbury Street, a suburban street in Moss Side at around 7.15pm on Sunday.

Mamoud died at the scene. He is believed to be from south Manchester.

Another youth, a 16-year-old boy was also seriously injured after being stabbed just yards away on Rosbery Street in Moss Side as part of the same incident.

Three other teenage boys, two aged 15 and one aged 17, went to hospital themselves with 'minor injuries'.

All four suffered stab injuries.

A murder inquiry is underway.

Today Greater Manchester Police confirmed the name of the deceased boy and revealed they have made a further arrest.

Four teenage boys – two aged 15 and two aged 17 – were previously arrested in connection with the incident.

Following questioning and further enquiries, they have since been released with no further action, according to GMP.

Officers have since arrested a 16-year-old on suspicion of murder and made a fresh appeal for information about the incident, which the Manchester Evening News believes to be a clash between two groups of youths.

Detective Inspector Benjamin Cottam, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “The very nature of this incident has meant piecing together the exact circumstances is extremely complex and we are following a number of lines of enquiry in order to establish exactly who was involved in Mamoud’s murder.

“As part of enquiries we have now made a further arrest and I hope this action reiterates our commitment to seeking justice for Mamoud. I want to be absolutely clear that we will do all that we can to ensure those responsible for his tragic death face justice.

“I would still appeal directly to anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and has any information that could assist us. We have now launched a Major Incident Public Portal so that anyone with information in relation to this murder can also submit their information online, anonymously if they wish.
