First quarter funds of 15th finance commission for rural local bodies released

Hyderabad: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Errabelli Dayakar Rao on Friday said the Central government, on the directions of the 15th Finance Commission, has released Rs 308 crore for the first quarter of the financial year meant for rural local bodies in the State. The Union government had approved release of Rs 1,847 crore for the entire year.

Thanking Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao for their persistent effort in convincing the Centre to restore the earlier practice of funding rural local bodies, Dayakar Rao said that 85 per cent of these funds will be distributed among village panchayats, 10 per cent to Mandal Parishads and 5 per cent to Zilla Parishads.

The Minister said the funds will be utilized to alleviate drinking water problem, rain water harvesting, construction of soak pits, community toilets, segregation of waste, compost making and upkeep of cleanliness in villages.

Local Bodies’s MLC Pochampalli Srinivas Reddy also appreciated the efforts of the Chief Minister in securing the funds for the State.
