Quezon native is shining for Malditas

ALISHA del Campo is a rising star for the Philippine Malditas and La Salle in UAAP women's football.

A Lopez, Quezon native, Del Campo has managed 11 international goals since her Malditas debut in 2017.

In her rookie season with the Lady Archers, Del Campo scored 10 goals in helping her university to a record 11th UAAP title last year.  La Salle was eyeing a four-peat when the UAAP football championship was canceled last April 7 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite the lull, Del Campo is looking forward to lead the Malditas to their maiden FIFA Women's World Cup stint in 2023.

The Philippines was once among the Asia's best, having featured in the 1981 Women's Asian Cup and winning bronze in the 1985 SEA Games, when women's football made its debut.

The Malditas may have been on the rise in the past few years, but a major breakthrough in the FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying is yet to materialize, barely missing the bus two years ago.

With the competition expanded to 32 teams in the next edition co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand three years from now, Del Campo remains upbeat that the Philippines will make it to the biggest stage in women's football.

"My goal is to help Philippines to the Women's World Cup," said Del Campo in an interview with Fifa.com which was released yesterday.
