KaiOS-powered K26 smart feature phone launches in Mexico

KaiOS Technologies has announced that the K26, a smart feature phone created by ALTÁN Redes, is now available in Mexico. According to KaiOS Technologies, around 30% of the Mexican population is still without mobile internet and it believes the $35 (USD) ALTÁN K26 can help get people online. The device is available alongside “competitive” monthly data packages too.

Even though the device has a low price point, it still includes VoLTE via 4G for fast mobile internet, Bluetooth, and dual-sim capabilities. The reliable mobile internet connection will allow users to seamlessly access social media apps including WhatsApp, Facebook, and YouTube. Despite the fact that 30% of Mexicans still do not have mobile internet, social media is very popular in the country with 89% of internet users being active on these platforms.

Commenting on the device, Salvador Álvarez, CEO of ALTÁN Redes, said:

Those looking at the K26 or other KaiOS devices should keep in mind that they are smart feature phones and although they have an app store, the experience is much more basic than you’d find on a smartphone.
