COVID-19: FG says states to receive N100 million each to boost response

- The federal government has disclosed that it will disburse N100 million each to all states in Nigeria to boost their response against COVID-19

The federal government has disclosed that it will disburse N100 million each to the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to boost their response against COVID-19.

The minister of health, Osagie Ehanire, made the disclosure on Thursday, July 23, during the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 briefing, Premium Times reported.

He said the funds will be made available to the states through the Regional Diseases Surveillance Enhancement (REDISSE) Project.

“With this support, all states of the federation will receive N100 million to enhance high impact priority response activities. The soon to be reactivated BHCPF will join the funding pool,” he said.

The minister explained that REDISSE Project was initiated by the World Bank to cover all countries in the ECOWAS sub-region as a consequence of the 2014‒2015 West Africa Ebola crisis.

Meanwhile, Nigeria's COVID-19 cases are close to 40,000 landmarks as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced new infections in some states in the country on Wednesday night, July 22. According to the NCDC update which was released via its official Twitter account, Nigeria recorded 543 new COVID-19 cases with total infections rising to 38,344.

Legit.ng notes that the new cases were reported across 15 states, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Lagos still remains the epicentre of the virus with 180 new cases, followed closely by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with 86 new infections.

The country has been able to successfully discharge a total of 15,815 persons who have recovered from the virus while 813 persons have unfortunately died from the virus.

In another report, the federal government has announced plans to carry out COVID-19 tests for five million Nigerian farmers across the country.

This was disclosed by the minister of agriculture and rural development, Sabo Nanono, on Tuesday, July 21. Nanono made the comment while delivering a keynote speech during a virtual meeting with major players in the sector.
