A man is in hospital with serious injuries after he was shot in a Nanaimo home on Sunday. One person has been arrested in connection with the shooting.

The shooting happened Sunday about 3 p.m. in a home on Malpass Road in north Nanaimo, said Nanaimo RCMP spokesman Const. Gary O’Brien.

Paramedics and police officers responded to reports of gunshots in the home. They found a man with what appeared to be at least one gunshot wound, O’Brien said.

The man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. O’Brien said the man had emergency surgery and is now in stable condition.

A short time later, another man arrived at the home and was arrested in connection with the shooting, O’Brien said.

“Police are not searching for additional suspects or victims and do not believe there is any further risk to the public,” he said.

The two men are known to each other.

O’Brien said police have been to the house in the past.

Investigators have not yet recovered a weapon but they gathered evidence that led them to a second undisclosed location in Nanaimo. That home was secured overnight and investigators are in the process of obtaining a search warrant to enter the home.

The man remains in police custody and charges have not yet been laid.

The investigation continues and anyone with information on the incident or has video surveillance is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
