McDonald's restaurants which have been closed since lockdown began will be reopening their doors today (Wednesday, July 22).

The fast food giant has been gradually returning to business by reopening drive-thrus, offering McDelivery and allowing customers in to pick up takeaways.

But two branches in Nottingham city centre have been shut since the pandemic began to sweep the country in March.

Today, however, it's all systems go at Angel Row and Exchange Walk for the first time in more than 17 weeks with Big Macs, Happy Meals and chicken nuggets back on the menu.

Customers will be able to eat in - but with a significant difference. Instead of waiting near the counter to pick up an order, food and drinks will be brought to the table.

Contact details must also be left as part of the track and trace procedure. One person from each party will be asked to provide their name, how many are within their group, a phone number, date and time and the restaurant number provided on a table sticker.

Social distancing measures will be in place and, to prevent congestion, restaurants will carefully manage the number of customers inside.

All the other city centre restaurants, including Clumber Street and intu Victoria Centre, will be allowing fans to eat in from Monday, July 27.
