What makes Torquay's 'The 25 Boutique B&B' so special?

The world's best B&B is in Torquay - for the second year running - and now the seaside resort also has the best small hotel in the UK, according to the new latest TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards for 2020.

The 25 is an adults-only boutique B&B in Avenue Road and it is the first time any B&B has earned the title for two consecutive years.

At the same time the tucked away Ascot House Hotel in Tor Church Road has been voted the best small hotel in the UK. The hotel is unique because every bedroom also has its own adjoining full-size lounge.

The owners of The 25 are over-the-moon at winning for the second time and said they have spent lockdown working every day to make sure that standards keep getting higher - totally redecorating the outside, the sun terrace and a new-look Shoalstone suite.

Owners, Andy and Julian Banner-Price, said they are delighted at accolade but never rest on their laurels: "We never see it as a finished product - we may be the best in the world but to us, being perfectionists, we can always see room for improvement.

"It's great to see how many businesses in Torbay are also in the Top 25 rankings in the UK. The standard of accommodation generally is just brilliant and the competition is very high, not just in Torquay but around the English Riviera. If you look at Trip Advisore the first three pages are all five out of five stars.

"It's testament to that high quality that so many have managed to get into the the top 25."

Other notable accolades were The Haytor Hotel named in the Top 25 best-rated Small Hotels in the UK and also in the Top 25 Romantic Hotels in the UK. The Albaston was named in the Top 10 B&Bs in the UK, and the Redholme in Torquay and Trefoil in Brixham were both also in the Top 25 B&Bs in the UK.

The Coppice in Torquay was named in the Top 5 Bargain Hotels in the UK, with Howden Court Hotel also in the Top 25.

“We are delighted that so many accommodation providers on The English Riviera have been recognised on the national and international stage. With so many winning properties coming from the English Riviera this year, it is testament to the high standards of hospitality we provide, which alongside our stunning natural scenery makes it the perfect place for a UK staycation,” said Carolyn Custerson, CEO of the English Riviera BID Company.
