Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has visited President Muhammadu Buhari on a thank-you visit for naming Agbor Railway Complex after him.

The former president praised the Buhari administration for completing the project. According to him, this shows the president had not abandoned the projects started by previous administrations.

This was disclosed in a tweet by a presidential aide, Tolu Ogunlesi.

Jonathan said: “Let me use this opportunity to commend Mr. President publicly... it’s a good gesture. I appreciate it, I thank Mr President and the Minister of Transportation.

“Completing the Railway [Project] is good, it shows that the President is going on with the legacy of previous administrations, and that is the way to go.”

The railway construction has been on for about 33 years. It was started by IBB in 1987 and completed in 2020 by Buhari.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Jonathan was appointed as a special envoy for Mali with the mandate to resolve the worsening socio-political situation in the country.

The high-profile appointment was given to Jonathan on Tuesday, July 14, by ECOWAS.

As part of his duties, the former Nigerian leader is to convene a series of talks with President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, opposition bigwigs, civil society as well as religious bodies.

The letter of appointment, made available to Legit.ng, from the president of ECOWAS' commission, Jean-Claude Kassi Brou to Jonathan read: “Given your position as the former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the great role and contributions your tenure offered to the maintenance of peace, security and stability in our region, I have the honour, in consultation with the Chair of the Authority, H.E. Issoufou Mahamadou, President of the Republic of Niger, to communicate to you, the decision to appoint you as ECOWAS Special Envoy for the sociopolitical crisis in Mali.”
